Update #29: ANOTHER Digital STL Bundle Delivery! And Start Prepping For The Cataclysm & Arena Modes!
5 months ago – Sun, Dec 03, 2023 at 12:25:05 PM

Dear Adventurers,

Welcome to Update #29, where we've got exhilarating news to share! Dive into the latest developments in Riveborne: Champions from Beyond.

Arachiko STL Digital Delivery

Arachiko preys on the unsuspecting

We're thrilled to announce that the digital STL for Arachiko is NOW available(!) for download on Backerkit for all eligible backers. If you backed for the Digital STL Bundle, Arachiko is yours to add to your collection of STLs.

Arachiko, formerly known as Jorogumo, underwent adjustments based on manufacturing details. While the story remains true to its origins, Arachiko's final design is ready! Backers entitled to this champion, seize the opportunity, and grab your digital download from Backerkit!

NOTE: Since some might be disappointed with the change in design, please understand that this was a change we had to make looking into manufacturing her. Since we don't want to disappoint, we made sure to include both the Jorogumo (as a freebie bonus) AND the Arachiko STL for download. The original design was in the previous bulk STL download, and Arachiko is joining the fray as a separate download. If you backed for the STLs and want to find her, you need to get into Backerkit using the same email/account you used to preorder Riveborne, after which you should be able to find her in your Digital Downloads section.

Arena & Cataclysm System

All of our written content is now about 90% finalized and tested. It's really exciting! With development well underway, let's take a deeper look into the Arena and Cataclysm Modes so you can start preparing for what's to come.

Riveborne has been created to be quick, accessible, and easy to inject into any narrative campaign, whatever the setting might be. This means less time planning and more time playing while still being flexible enough for Game Masters to tweak things on the fly or even plan entire side adventures using the realms provided as a jumping-off point.

First up, the Cataclysm System – an immersive mode designed for new adventures or side-quests within your narrative campaign. Explore a world transformed by the primal energy unleashed by Rivedragon A'nexodus. Rives emerge, merging connected worlds, leading to cataclysmic consequences. The characters' role becomes pivotal in closing these Rives before irreversible destruction engulfs their realms.

A Rive can open at any time during a campaign or even before the campaign has started. When you wish to open a Rive in your games, consider what events might occur to precede its arrival, or what the initial aftermath might be for the characters, should they already be in the region when it is unleashed, and what champion it may call forth.

For example, opening a Rive to the Realm of Storm and Sea while the characters are traveling through a mostly flat region, they might suddenly find themselves at the mercy of extreme flash floods, thunderstorms, or even beset by giant tentacled creatures from the depths of the sea when taking rest at a lakeside camp. If in a settlement, do the characters choose to save themselves from this mysterious environmental disaster or risk their lives against the rising torrents to save innocents from their homes? Do they search for a location tall enough to weather the flooding, or be whisked away by the rushing waters and hope to make it to shore somewhere else in the region?

Your players are the only ones capable of closing these Rives - perhaps it is fate, guided by the gods of your world? Or perhaps it is sheer dumb luck, and the player’s characters are the only ones close enough to close a Rive in time before more begin to appear?

Whatever your reasoning, the progression of this narrative mode is largely the same: characters uncover a Rive and must close it before the realm it leads to bleeds into their world and utterly destroys it.

On the other hand, the Arena Mode unveils the Colosseum of Dreams, a colossal structure in space.

Drifting silently through the depths of space lies the mysterious Colosseum of Dreams - a gargantuan superstructure crafted from the finest materials from across the multiverse and home to The Grandmaster, an otherworldly entity of incredible power and influence.

Within the expansive golden halls of the Colosseum lies a multitude of combat arenas, each with its own Arena Champion who fights for the amusement of their bloodthirsty fans. Warriors from across the multiverse are invited by the Grandmaster to challenge these Champions for the chance to claim the title of Arena Champion for themselves. Although few make it out alive, the ones that do are crowned Champion, and may find themselves invited back to compete against Warriors craving a chance at their prestigious title -  should The Grandmaster deem them fit.

The Colosseum of Dreams sports many arenas of various shapes and sizes, each tailored to its particular Arena Champion. When characters are invited to participate in the Colosseum, they can choose which Arena Champion to challenge. Before facing their chosen champion, characters must first prove themselves a worthy enough foe by completing two initial bouts in the champion’s arena. During these bouts, characters can complete special missions to garner Triumph Tokens, which they can spend on items, spells, or other features that may grant them an edge in the final conflict against the arena’s current Champion. Should characters emerge victorious, they claim the title of Arena Champion as their own and may be called back by The Grandmaster to defend their title or even participate in The Grandmaster’s personal pride and joy, The Endless Arena.

With the introduction of these two compelling game modes, we aim to enrich your gaming experience with epic boss encounters and intricate twists. Prepare to face formidable champions and steer your narrative toward extraordinary adventures.

Update #28: Digital STL Bundle Delivery!
6 months ago – Tue, Oct 24, 2023 at 07:38:08 AM

Hi, friends!

Let's start with the big news...

We've just distributed the Digital STL Bundle!

This is where you'll find all 14 mini's in STL format, both supported and unsupported. We've uploaded it in two parts (halves) and made ZIP files to accommodate upload limits.

You'll receive this delivery if:

  • You're on the Deluxe tier.
  • You added as an add-on: Digital STL Bundle - ALL Minis

If you can't find the delivery in your mailbox, please check Backerkit directly for any download links.

Note: The reward will not be distributed until the backer has their order locked and all required payments have been collected. If you run into issues and should've received the order, please reach out to us directly here or via Discord.

Mini's!?

We've had some incredible help building these supports and testing them. Here is a shout-out to MrMelon, Thomas Levine, LJ, raw.paints, Steef, and others (incl. some who prefer to stay anonymous) for building out supports and providing valuable feedback. Once again, thank you!

Credit: LJ

If you're interested in getting these (and more), it is not too late! You can still order them as an add-on or edit your order.

The next update will likely be more book-content centred, and will help explain how you can already start prepping for Riveborne.

Until the next rift,

The Eightfold Paper Team.

Update #27: Finalizing STL files, Two Open Beta Champions, and Closed Beta Announcement
7 months ago – Sat, Sep 30, 2023 at 07:35:18 AM

Greetings, Esteemed Adventurers!

It's time for another update on the progress of Riveborne: Champions from Beyond. Your unwavering support inspires us, and we have some important news to share in this edition.

Digital STL File Delivery Update

We know you've been eagerly anticipating the delivery of our digital STL files, and we initially planned to release them this week. However, after careful consideration and a commitment to delivering the best possible product, we've moved the release date by two weeks. We want to ensure that every detail is perfected, and we apologize for this minor delay.

The discovery of certain printing issues during our test prints prompted the decision to postpone the release. Thanks to the keen observations and helpful feedback from our backers and our own printing endeavors, we identified areas for improvement. For example, we encountered challenges with Elmrir's horns and Giga Mimic's swords. We want to optimize the STL files to ensure you have the highest quality prints and an outstanding experience.

Status on Champions

We're thrilled to announce that we've made significant progress on the boss champions. While there is still work to be done on their backstory pages, we are fully committed to finalizing these in the next few weeks. We're also missing artwork for two out of the fourteen champions. However, we're excited to share the boss champions with you and receive your valuable feedback.

We plan to open surveys for these champions over the span of a month to gather your insights and make any necessary tweaks. Your feedback is crucial in shaping these champions and making them truly exceptional.

Open Beta Champions

We're sharing the new and improved Giga Mimic Boss Fight with everyone to demonstrate our appreciation for your feedback and how seriously we take it. We've made substantial changes to the fight and believe it can be further refined with your assistance. Alongside Giga Mimic, we're also introducing Sir Rainer - The Nightflame.

What are you waiting for? Download these bosses now.

"But how do the mechanics work exactly...?"

We've prepared a PDF Guide. Please note that this PDF is a simplified version of how the explanation will appear in the final book. We wanted to ensure that backers can try out these bosses without delay.

The PDF also includes links to quick surveys for both bosses. We encourage you to share your feedback with us.

Closed Beta Announcement

In previous newsletters, we asked for sign-ups from backers interested in participating in the Riveborne closed beta testing. The time has come! We've received tremendous interest, and throughout early October, we'll be sharing ALL of the monsters for testing. Please note that these monsters will be shared in pieces with specific backers who signed up for closed beta testing. There are no guarantees you'll be selected. Selection will be random.

If you signed up earlier, you can stay tuned, as links to the PDF(s) may find their way to your inboxes by next week.

Ending Note

We want to express our gratitude for your continued support and enthusiasm. Your involvement is shaping Riveborne into something extraordinary, and we can't wait to share more with you in the coming months.

Until the next Rive,

The Riveborne Team

Update #26: Status, Progress, and Sneak Peek at Printed Rive Dragon!
8 months ago – Tue, Sep 12, 2023 at 08:59:31 AM

Greetings, Valiant Adventurers!

We're thrilled to bring you another exciting update on the progress of Riveborne: Champions from Beyond. Your unwavering support continues to drive us forward, and we have some fantastic news to share with you.

General Progress

Our journey through the realms of Riveborne is fairing incredibly well. We've worked hard on multiple fronts, and the project is progressing smoothly. Races, subclasses, champions, and even the Cataclysm System are all shaping up beautifully. Rest assured, we remain firmly on schedule, and we can't wait to dive into even more details with you in next month's update.

Digital Miniature STLs Milestone

Our highest priority is the upcoming milestone of finishing the digital miniature STL files for delivery. We're excited to announce that we're in the final stages of this process. The Dreamholder is the last piece of the puzzle and will be finalized in the next few weeks. This achievement marks a significant step towards bringing Riveborne to life. We appreciate your patience and support as we meticulously craft each miniature.

Sneak Peek at the Printed Rive Dragon: Talking about bringing Riveborne to life. Now, for the moment you've all been waiting for - the Rive Dragon! This iconic and majestic creature is the largest miniature in Riveborne: Champions from Beyond. We've thoroughly prepared it for home-printing and are thrilled to showcase the Rive Dragon in all its glory. Feast your eyes on the images of the printed miniature:

Several Shots of A'Nexodus - DLP Resin Print, Zenithal Priming

This is a DLP Resin Print using the exact STL we'll share with all of the applicable backers. Obviously, results may vary depending on the printer you use to print him out. Since he's so large, we had to cut him down in size for the pre-supports and glue him together afterward. We did this because we wanted him to fit inside most printers while retaining the strength of the sculpture. Of course, we'll also be sure to add a non-sliced version of A'Nexodus in case you rather do your own thing. Here are screenshots of the pre-supports we've created for him:

If you're not home-printing or not getting the digital STL files, but you are a backer getting the physical copy of A'Nexodus, don't worry; you won't miss out! Although the printing method will differ from the home-printing example above (and we have no example of it now), we'll ensure it'll look just as incredible, with a focus on its durability. Be on the lookout!

Beta Testing Reminder

For all of you who missed out on the message in last month's update: We're excited to involve you, our dedicated backers, in shaping the game further. Our closed beta testing is yet to start, and we're looking for eager and active testers to provide valuable feedback on Races and Subclasses, Boss Champions, and Systems (Arena & Cataclysm System). Be among the first to try out new content and have a significant impact on Riveborne's progress.

(Please scroll down in the (linked above) backer-only update to find the beta testing URL. If you're a late backer, keep an eye out for your email in the next few days).

Signing up won't guarantee we'll send you beta content. It depends on how much feedback we need as the project progresses and when. Ideally, we'd get everyone interested to chip in one way or another - that's the goal!

Looking Ahead

We may provide another update before the STL milestone and then, of course, the STL milestone itself. Please don't worry, we are on track, and potential delays will be minimal.

Thank you for embarking on this incredible adventure with us. Together, we will shape the Riveborne universe and create something extraordinary.

Until the next Rive,

The Riveborne Team
